SING FOR YOUR SUMMER
And not just in your bathroom
A nerdy summer choral course.
FROM Wednesday 11th (evening) TO Sunday 15th of August. Kent. All welcome who can decently hold a tune!
Do you want to squeal (sing) with pleasure at normality’s sweet, sweet return, whilst meeting fine people who might know EVEN more Star Wars trivia than you? Then you must come to…
Ready Singer One’s first ever summer singing course /academy /retreat /holiday /all those things!
WHAT WHAT
Four-and-a-half days of choir singing your favorite nerdy tunes! Mixed with nerdy socialising (isn’t that an oxymoron? cough) activities. Set at the idyllic, peaceful, green, Harry-Potter-if-he-went-to-school-in-Kent Cobham Hall boarding school, in Gravesend, Kent.
WHEN WHEN
From Wednesday 11th of August (evening) to Sunday the 15th of August (late afternoon). Boarding included.
WHO CAN JOIN
YOU can join! If you have an awareness of singing in tune.
You don’t necessarily need to have attended / to plan on attending our weekly London singing sessions. The repertoire will be slightly different, so you’ll be learning new pieces and having a blast either way!
OUR SATB choir arrangements are stimulating, yet accessible to all. Everything will be taught by ear, but the sheet music will also be sent to you a couple weeks in advance.
TELL ME MORE, TELL ME MORE
Okay. This is a choir long weekend, or short week. You will sing. In a choir. The choir repertoire is: original arrangements of your favorite tunes from video games, films, TV series, anime. The rehearsals are all with piano AND percussion, so you can feel like you’re part of some edgy vocal band.
The choir will rehearse 4-5 hours a day. That’s less than 24! Here is a list of the rest of the (fun, exciting) program:
a menu of extravagantly geeky social activities: cosplay day, treasure hunts, band-a-oke, DnD, a board game tournament, hikes... and many more surprises;
daily morning yoga/martial arts warm-ups, if thou art a muscle masochist;
your own individual singing lesson with a state-of-the-art, extra friendly teacher;
eating gourmet food and sleeping gourmet sleeps at Cobham Hall, one of the UK’s most beautiful boarding schools;
if bats and pangolins allow, a little end-of-course concert to vastly impress people you REALLY want to be friends with. And your mother.
WHERE WHERE
You will only be given the following GPS coordinates: 51.394402088877506, 0.41881888480851737 . See you there.
This, ah, secret place, is one of the UK’s most beautiful boarding schools! And it’s called Cobham Hall. And is in Gravesend, Kent. The school is so pretty that it’s often featured in movies, for example Wild Child, which is, like, practically Lord Of The Rings.
The setting is very green and rural - think of this as a singing retreat in the middle of nature! Nearby Gravesend is very accessible by train, 15 minutes from London.
You will be staying in single rooms in the boarding houses. Three excellent meals are included, and the venue can cater for all dietary requirements which can possibly exist in 2021. (2021 food: vaccine-flavoured vaccine)
Of course, course fees
£345, single room (shared bathrooms: plentiful, unisex, snazzy)
£385, single ensuite room
This includes accommodation, tummy stuffed with food three times a day, all the singing, and all the fun activities.
(We are not offering a ‘non-boarding’ option this year, in case we need to stay in a ‘Covid Social Bubble’.)
Course staff stuff
Choir director: Elisabeth Swedlund. Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate; vocal ensemble passionate with literally hundreds of singing workshops worldwide under her belt. And too many hours spent reading all the books.
Pianist: David Swan. Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate. Plays Jazz piano all around London. Can probably play Mario Kart on the console and piano together, perfectly.
Percussionist: Jordan Murray. Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate. Honestly one of the best young percussionists out there - buy him a drink and befriend him now!
Singing teacher for individual lessons: TBA very soon!
Yoga/ Martial arts coach: TBA very soon!
Course manager: Tom Moss. Tom will boss you around, host all the FUN social events, and challenge you on who knows the most words. He might have played more video games than you, and is also a professional bassoon player.
COVID SHMOVID
This course will happen if it’s legal to sing mask-less indoors! If the following is still compulsory, we will, ya know, have everyone sitting correct distances apart in rehearsals, and wear masks in corridors. Hopefully not.
If the course doesn’t happen (don’t you dare, said she, pointing a finger to a random spot in the sky), you will get 100% of all monies paid back.
